Neon Drift Rally: getting comfortable with the drift
Everything good in Neon Drift Rally flows from one skill: chaining drifts into boosts. Once that clicks, your lap times drop dramatically and the game stops feeling random.
Start by switching to touch controls if you began with tilt. Tilt feels immersive but it's harder to hold a precise drift angle, and precision is what fills your boost meter. Touch gave me far more consistent runs.
The trick to a long drift is entering the corner slightly wider than feels natural, then holding the drift a touch longer than you think you should. Release right as the track straightens and you launch out with a full boost. Rushing the release is the most common mistake.
For cars, don't chase the flashiest unlock. I found a lightweight grippy model early that carried me through most of the mid-game tracks because it drifted so predictably. Handling beats top speed when you're still learning.
Put on the soundtrack, do a few practice laps on an easy track, and let the muscle memory build. It comes faster than you'd expect.
